It’s no secret to those who know us here at Treasure Hunters Club that Disneyland‘s Jungle Cruise is one of our favorite rides, experiences, and things in the whole wide world. The exotic locals (did you know that the Jungle Cruise is based on several different real world locations), the mystery (the back side of water!), the danger (Piranhas! Tigers! Trader Sam!), and the PUNS!!!!
While we do have to wait until October of 2019 to see the finished product, it really is about time that Disney made a movie based on this oh-so iconic ride. The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean both have had their stories mined for the screens, and in one case was a huge success.
This one, looks like it’s headed for greatness. The upcoming Jungle Cruise film stars Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson as Frank and Emily Blunt as Lily Houghton and as is evidenced in the trailer, the movie will be a romantic comedy ala the golden age of Hollywood. This project will be a departure for the Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra who helmed the horror reboot of House of Wax and the psychological thriller Orphan.
Neither of the A-list stars are new to the house of mouse. Dwayne Johnson lent his voice to demi god Maui in Moana and Emily Blunt starred in Disney’s Into the Woods and will soon appear in the title role in Mary Poppins Returns.
Needless to say, we are totally ready to set sail with them on their next adventure.
