Netflix keeps on bringing us the good stuff, delivered right into our home: Stranger Things, G.L.O.W., the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt … and now we have more to thank them for. It was announced that Alex Hirsch signed a multi-year deal with the media giant. Yes, the madman behind Disney’s Gravity Falls will be returning to our TV with more of his unique brand of entertainment. And it’s a smart move.
People love, and I mean LOVE Gravity Falls. They watch the episodes over and over. They bought the follow up book in droves (it became a New York Times best seller). They get arms full of tattoos. Yup. that Gravity Falls love is real.
Although Gravity Falls itself isn’t coming back, odds are Hirsch will deliver something brilliant. But you might not want to tell the kids just yet. The deal is for adult animation, not a the kid-friendly Pines twins type of animation. Under the new deal, Alex will develop a new series and feature films for Netflix. And according to Hirsch’s tweet, there’s one more part of the deal:
Under this new deal I’m expected to
1) Make new TV shows!
2) Make new movies!
3) Get a giant red N tattooed on my face!
(#3 is still being negotiated)

Netflix said of the news: “Alex is an imaginative storyteller with new ideas who’s quickly developed a reputation as a fresh new voice in animation,” announced Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content for Netflix. “We couldn’t be more excited to work with him as we continue expanding our adult animated slate.”
Yeah, us too! Us too!
